How to use it

  1. Enter the start and end dates. Order doesn't matter; the calculator swaps them if needed.
  2. Turn on the end-date toggle if the last day should count, as with an inclusive deadline or a rental period.
  3. Read the total days, and the breakdowns in weeks, months and weekdays.

Worked example

From 1 January 2026 to 25 December 2026.

That’s 358 days, or 51 weeks and 1 day, or 11 months and 24 days. 256 of those days are weekdays and 102 fall on a weekend.

How it's calculated

days = end date − start date (calendar days, ignoring time zones and daylight saving)

Years, months and days count whole months from the start date the way ages are counted, with the month clamped to its last day when the start day doesn’t exist in it.

Weekdays counts Mondays to Fridays in the span, not accounting for public holidays.

With the end-date toggle on, one more day is added to every count.

FAQ

Should I include the end date?

It depends on what you're counting. Nights in a hotel from the 1st to the 4th is 3 days, so leave it off. A sale running from the 1st to the 4th inclusive is 4 days, so turn it on. Legal deadlines usually exclude the start day and include the last day, which is the default here.

Why does the months figure look odd?

A month isn't a fixed number of days, so the calculator counts whole calendar months from the start date and then the leftover days. From 31 January to 1 March is one month and one day, because the month ends on 28 February.

Does it skip holidays?

No. Weekdays are Monday to Friday only. Subtract public holidays yourself; there are about ten federal holidays a year in the US, though which ones fall on weekdays varies.

Can I add days to a date instead?

Not here yet. For the date that's N days from now, enter today as the start and adjust the end until the total reads N.
