How to use it
- Enter the item price and whatever the buyer paid for shipping. eBay charges its percentage on the whole order, including shipping and sales tax.
- Pick the category. Most things are 13.6%; books, trading cards, sneakers over $150 and guitars have their own rates.
- Add your promoted listing ad rate if you used one, and turn on the international toggle for buyers outside the US.
- Read what you keep. To find a list price that nets a target amount, switch the mode.
Worked example
A jacket sells for $48.00 with the buyer paying $6.00 shipping, in a standard category.
Order total is $54.00. Final value fee: $54.00 × 13.6% = $7.34, plus the $0.40 per-order fee = $7.74. You keep $46.26 before your own shipping label and cost of goods, an effective rate of 14.33%.
How it's calculated
order total = item price + shipping + sales tax
final value fee = order total × category rate + per-order fee
The category rate applies to the first $7,500 of the order; anything above that is charged at 2.35%. The per-order fee is $0.30 for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above that.
International fee = order total × 1.65% (buyers outside the US, when you ship it yourself)
Promoted listing fee = order total × your ad rate
you keep = order total − all fees. Each fee is rounded to the cent on its own, the way eBay bills it.
FAQ
Does eBay charge a fee on shipping?
Yes. The final value fee is a percentage of the total the buyer pays, which includes shipping and sales tax. Offering free shipping and raising the price changes nothing about the fee; it's the total that counts.
What is the per-order fee?
A flat $0.30 on orders of $10 or less, or $0.40 on orders above $10, charged once per order in addition to the percentage. It's why very cheap items have a surprisingly high effective rate.
Do store subscribers pay less?
Usually. Basic Store and above get lower rates in many categories, for example 12.35% instead of 13.6% in most categories, plus a monthly fee. This calculator uses the rates for sellers without a store; check eBay's schedule for your tier.
How is the international fee charged?
When the buyer's address is outside the US and you ship it yourself, eBay adds 1.65% of the order total. Orders sent through eBay International Shipping don't get this fee because eBay handles the export leg.
Are promoted listings fees charged on the whole order?
Yes. The ad rate you set is applied to the total sale amount, including shipping, on top of the final value fee. Only sales that come through a promoted click are charged.
